Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson born to British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby & Chris Watson in Paris, France. They relocated to Oxfordshire at the age of five where she attended at the Dragon School. Emma chose to be an actor at age six. Over the course of several years, she attended the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing as well as dancing, and also acting. By the time she turned 10, Emma had taken part in a variety of Stagecoach productions and plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film version to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was found by agents via her Oxford teacher. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after having 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's first appearance on the big screen took place in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. It was the highest-grossing film of 2001, the film set records for its debut day revenue as well as opening weekend takings. Critics were impressed with the performance of the film as well as its story. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British publication, has praised Emma for her performance. In the following days, Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her role in the film, winning an award called the Young Artist Award for Leading Actress of a Younger in an Feature Film.
